Volcanic Activity; Reminder about Pacific Waves: May 8, 2015

The U.S. Embassy alerts U.S. citizens of local reports of increased seismic and volcanic activity from the Telica and Concepción volcanoes in Nicaragua.

The Telica volcano is approximately 82 kilometers northwest of Managua near the city of Leon.  Local press is currently reporting visible ash coming from the Telica volcano.

The Concepción volcano is located on the island of Ometepe in Lake Nicaragua.  There have been press reports in recent days of increased seismic activity near Concepción.

The Embassy also reminds U.S. citizens of the May 4 Emergency Message about strong waves along the Pacific Coast.  According to local press reports and the Nicaraguan Emergency Alert System (SINAPRED), strong waves are still being observed along the Pacific Coast.

U.S. citizens are encouraged to monitor local media reports and follow guidance and instructions from local authorities.

U.S. citizens should also monitor the websites of the Nicaraguan Institute for Territorial Studies (INETER) and the Nicaraguan Emergency Alert System (SINAPRED).
