Overseas employees will demonstrate the following characteristics essential for being a successful member of the United States Embassy, Consulate, or Mission team. The work you’ll do will have an impact on the world. You will be asked to serve at one of any of the more than 270 embassies, consulates and other diplomatic missions in The Americas, Africa, Europe and Eurasia, East Asia and Pacific, Middle East and North Africa, and South Asia. Some of these posts are in difficult and even dangerous environments, but working in them affords great challenges and rewards.

Applicants will receive correspondence for testing processes and/or interviews via email from ERA; please be sure to provide a correct email address and phone number.
The Human Resources Office is unable to acknowledge the receipt of your documents due to the high volume of applications received. If you do not receive a notification email from ERA within four weeks of the vacancy announcement’s closing day, it is likely that you did not qualify for the position or did not submit a complete package. However, we encourage you to keep applying for positions you may qualify.
The United States Embassy in Managua offers a multicultural work environment, and we serve diverse team members around the world. For this reason, the level of English and Spanish required varies between positions according to duties and responsibilities. This ability may be tested in the process.
All applicants under consideration will be required to pass medical and security certifications before you can begin work with the Embassy. Pre-employment clearance checks can take around three or four months to complete, therefore we would always recommend not handing in your notice to your current employer before you have received full clearances.

In accordance with State Department policy, U.S. citizen Eligible Family Members (USEFMs) are given preference in the selection process. If these individuals meet all the essential criteria as outlined on the job advertisement, they will be selected for assessment. If the USEFM demonstrates that they meet the essential requirements for the position during the assessment, they will be selected for that position.
