Remarks by U.S. Ambassador to Nicaragua, Laura F. Dogu
April 4, 2016
I am grateful to be able to participate in this important event for IBEX Global and for all of Nicaragua. For more than 12 years, IBEX Global has been an important client service provider in the United States and currently has 20 contact centers around the world.
Now, the company is growing in Latin America and Nicaragua will be the central axis for this expansion. For me, the opening of this office demonstrates the important role that United States investment plays in job creation in Nicaragua.
In the case of IBEX Global, they have created 500 new jobs. This brings to light the commitment that United States companies have to the future of this country.
On various occasions, you have heard me speak about the focus of the United States’ Government on improving prosperity in Nicaragua. I think that the opening of this bilingual call-center is a good example of how investment, together with education, can improve Nicaraguans’ standard of living. Also, it is proof of how the efforts of the United States’ government in Nicaragua can pay off along with those of the private sector.
For example, the United States Embassy is investing in the support of Nicaragua’s education system, focusing on increasing access to quality education. Last year, more than 14,000 people benefited from the educational programs sponsored by USAID, receiving scholarships, training in life skills, and technical vocational education. The Micro-scholarship Program Access is another United States Embassy program that has benefited English students.
Since 2010, 1,700 youths of limited resources between the ages 14 and 17 have received high-quality instruction in English, in more than 25 cities in Nicaragua. The graduates of this program possess the necessary tools to continue their education or make the transition to the workplace, with businesses like IBEX Global.
By establishing their Latin American axis of expansion in Nicaragua, IBEX Global recognizes the enormous potential that the English-speaking population has in this country.
It pleases me that U.S. companies like IBEX Global are strong corporate partners in the countries where they have a presence. The creation of better job opportunities and the strengthening of local communities, through corporate social responsibility programs, are some of the benefits that United States investments bring.
I want to congratulate IBEX Global on their impressive new offices and their continuous and valuable presence in Nicaragua.
