Remarks by U.S. Ambassador to Nicaragua, Laura F. Dogu
Managua, September 5, 2017
Congratulations to AmCham and Jeanette Duque Estrada for organizing this event. The principal mission of AmCham is to promote trade and investment between the United States and Nicaragua through free trade, the free market, and free enterprise.
Here we see a manifestation of that mission: uniting employers with potential employees, supporting good business practices, and demonstrating the benefits of diversity in the workforce.
The businesses that employ more women, people with disabilities, people from indigenous communities, and from different religious backgrounds are the most successful businesses. These companies benefit from the different perspectives of their employees, and can better serve their diverse clients.
This job fair, organized by a woman, highlights the important role of United States businesses in Nicaragua, and gives all of you the opportunity to work for high-quality companies that benefit every day from their diverse employees.
I feel very proud that U.S. businesses are also leaders in such important aspects as corporate government, business ethics, responsible environmental practices, job security, and community participation.
AmCham calculates that more than 300,000 Nicaraguans have a job thanks to U.S. investment in this country. They represent more than 10 percent of the Nicaraguan workforce, and as a result of this fair, surely this number will increase. Good luck to all of you and I hope to see some of you soon, working for and growing the businesses in our countries.
