A U.S. Air Force’s C-17 Globemaster arrived at Managua’s Augusto C. Sandino International Airport carrying a fire truck donated by Colonial Fire Company of Hamilton, New Jersey to Managua’s volunteer firemen Benemerito Cuerpo de Bomberos.
“Very proud to witness this generous donation by Colonial Fire Company, which was made possible by the hard work and coordination of Nicaraguan-American Police Officer, Jorge Narvaez, of Princeton Police in New Jersey; and to the U.S. Government which air transported the truck to Nicaragua. This truck will save lives!”
The Denton Humanitarian Assistance Program facilitates the use of military aircraft for the transport of donations by American organizations to other countries, and it is the result of coordination by four U.S. Government agencies: The United States Agency for International Development (USAID,) the State Department, The Department of Defense, and the Defense Security Cooperation Agency.
In 2019, U.S. humanitarian organizations have donated $218,000 in humanitarian assistance to Nicaraguan organizations through the Denton Program.
