Kevin Michael O’Reilly, a career member of the United States Senior Foreign Service, assumed duty as Chargé d’Affaires, ad interim, on Wednesday, June 28, 2023.
From March 2022 to June 2023, Mr. O’Reilly served as National Coordinator for the Summit of the Americas, following more than three years as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs. Other notable assignments include Deputy Chief of Mission and Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Panama, from 2014-2017; National Security Council Director for North American Affairs at the White House; Director of the Office of Mexican Affairs, and Senior Director for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, Iraq.
Additionally, over the span of a 35-year career working as a Foreign Service Officer for the U.S. Department of State, Mr. O’Reilly served at embassies in Mexico City, Mexico; Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic; Buenos Aires, Argentina; and Jakarta, Indonesia.
Born in Evanston, Illinois, Mr. O’Reilly holds Master of Arts degrees from the U.S. Naval War College and the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and a Juris Doctor degree from Loyola University Chicago.
