Event: Criminal activity has increased recently in Managua and the surrounding area, including an increased incidence of armed robberies. The U.S. Embassy is aware of recent armed robberies of U.S. citizens, including of individuals cycling in and around Managua.  These incidents appear to be crimes of opportunity.

If you are confronted by an individual who demands your personal items with or without a weapon visible, you are encouraged to remain calm, follow their instructions/demands, and seek safety as soon as possible.

The U.S. Embassy in Nicaragua continues to encourage all U.S. citizens to remain vigilant during this holiday season. Please review the U.S. Embassy’s recent “Holiday Security Reminder” for best practices to enhance your safety and security.
